Establishment of the Jewish Museum in Prague Foundation

The Jewish Museum in Prague Foundation was established in 1992 on the basis of the Resolution of the Regional Commercial Court in Prague of 5 March 1999.

Objectives

The Foundation was established with the objective of contributing to the preservation and development of Jewish culture in the Czech Republic. For this purpose it supports the religious, cultural, educational and publication work of Jewish communities operating in the Czech Republic within the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic.

Projects supported by the Foundation

a) preservation and renovation (mainly restoration, conservation and cleaning) of objects of cultural value which constitute part of the holdings of the Jewish Museum in Prague, and which are used by, or are to be loaned to, Jewish communities on the basis of agreements with the Jewish Museum in Prague;

b) arrangement and creation of technical conditions for cultural, instructional and educational activities, particularly exhibitions (permanent and temporary), lectures and seminars whose aim is to familiarise the public with the history and culture of the Jewish Diaspora in the Czech Republic and which are held by Jewish communities in association with the Jewish Museum in Prague;

c) publications – exhibition catalogues, informational and educational materials and other printed matter directly related to the activities of Jewish communities mentioned above.

Although financial support is earmarked mainly for Jewish communities operating within the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic, the Foundation intends to contribute to the preservation and development of Jewish culture throughout the Czech Republic. For this reason, the Foundation also, in individual cases, provides financial contributions to other projects whose aim is to preserve, renovate and maintain objects of cultural value which, although not part of the holdings of the Jewish Museum in Prague, do constitute significant examples of a shared Jewish culture in the Czech Republic.

4. Assessment of the Foundation’s compliance with the rules set out for cutting administration expenses:

Administration expenses do not exceed 25% of the amount of contributions provided annually:

Operating expenses CZK 70,688.66 – about 11% of the amount of contributions provided in 2002.

5. Assessment of basic information contained in the financial statements and auditor’s report.

According to the auditor’s report of 24 June 2003, the financial statements gave an accurate view of the assets, liabilities, capital and financial situation of the Jewish Museum in Prague Foundation at 31 December 2002 and of the business results for 2002 in accordance with the Accountancy Act.

The auditor’s report is included in an annex to this annual report.
