Prague

06. 04. 2016 18:00

Auditorium OVK ŽMP, Maiselova 15, 3. floor

A lecture by Prof. Sabine Koller (University of Regensburg) on the period immediately after the end of the Second World War, when thousands of Jewish refugees sought a new beginning in a country of perpetrators. Among them was the writer, journalist and painter Mendel Man (1916-1975). This lecture will show the various sides of Mendel Man, who was one of the most important Jewish writers in the post-war period. In his newspaper articles he strictly condemned the Nazi crimes. His poetry gave a voice to those who had lost their lives in the Shoah. With psychological mastery, he looked for a new meaning for humanity in his prose. The lecture will be in English. Free admission.
