Jewish Music for Two Cellos / Dominika Weiss Hošková & Jiří Hošek

A concert of cello works by 19th/20th-century Jewish composers, performed by the leading Czech cellists Dominika Weiss Hošková and Jiří Hošek (her father). Featuring works by Jacques Offenbach (1819–1880), Noam Sheriff (b. 1935), Jiří Hošek (b. 1955) and David Popper (1843–1913). After studying under Professors V. Jírovec and V. Kočí at the Prague Conservatory and taking additional private lessons with Prof. Miloš Sádlo, Dominika Hošková attended the Faculty of Music at the Prague Academy of Performing Arts, completing a master’s degree under the instruction of her father, Jiří Hošek, in 2007. In 2008-2010, she continued her education at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance (Prof. Zvi Plesser – cello, Prof. Avi Abramovic – chamber music). She has received many awards in the Czech Republic and abroad, including the 2009 Grand Prize in the David Gritz Memorial Competition. In June 2010, her work was honoured by the Czech Senate with a Silver Medal for promoting the good name and traditions of the Czech Republic in the State of Israel..
 
Jiří Hošek studied cello under Prof. Miloš Sádlo at the Prague Academy of Performing Arts. He has had success at a number of international cello competitions and has participated in cello master classes in Paris, Nice and Budapest. He served as concert master of the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1991–1996, and has been a soloist with this orchestra since 1988. He is a Laureate of the 1980 Prague Spring International Music Competition. In March 1998, he was appointed a soloist with the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra.
