How Disabilities Are Viewed in Torah

Prague

Auditorium OVK, Maiselova 15, Prague

We know from Genesis, Chapter One, that God judged all of Creation to be Good.  But what about the prevalence of severe mental and physical impairments?  Are they too part of God’s plan for the Universe?  If so, should we see them as a blessing or a curse? Or might they be part of God’s purpose in some other way? This lecture by Yechiel Bar-Chaim, former director of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JOINT) for Central and Eastern Europe, considers these questions as they are treated in Torah itself and as they are considered in various traditional rabbinical sources.
In English with Czech translation.
