Ženy v Bibli, ženy dnes [Women in the Bible, Women Today]

Ženy v Bibli [Women in the Bible] is a collection of lectures that were given by Terezie Dubinová at the Jewish Museum’s Education and Culture Centre between January 2007 and January 2008. This collection draws attention to a hitherto little known source of Jewish biblical studies, namely a Jewish feminist interpretation of the Bible. The author seeks to interpret the attitudes and views regarding women in Judaism, particularly through traditional rabbinic commentaries of biblical texts. The traditional view is compared with the present-day position of women who, in light of increasing gender equality, have set about interpreting the Bible, bringing a new, female perspective on these texts. Terezie Dubinová enables a comparison to be made between traditional rabbinical commentaries and present-day feminist interpretations, allowing the reader to create their own take on these issues. This collection is unique in its way, considering the fact that academic discussion and specialist literature on this topic in Czech Hebrew studies is mostly unknown and unpublished.
