Lag ba-Omer

A smaller, festive holiday celebrated on the 33rd day into the counting of the Omer, a period between Pesah and Shavuot, which falls on 18 Iyar. This holiday commemorates two events from the 2nd century C.E. – the day when the pupils of Rabbi Akiva no longer succumbed to an epidemic in the period after the Bar Kochba revolt and day, and the anniversary of the important scholar and mystic Simon bar Yokhay. Pilgrimages are made to his grave in Israel on Lag ba-Omer and the celebrations are festive in nature.
