Jewish Museum in Prague celebrates 120th birthday
‘Until 120 years!’ — a traditional Jewish birthday wish — feels especially fitting this year, as our museum celebrates
its 120th anniversary.
And while birthdays usually mean gifts for the one celebrating, we’re turning the tradition upside down. This time, you
will be the ones receiving the presents — our visitors, friends, and all lovers of history and culture. We hope you’ll
find plenty to enjoy in our anniversary programme.
The year‑long celebrations are held under the auspices of the Capital City of Prague and its
Mayor, Bohuslav Svoboda. We sincerely thank them for their support.

2026, July 13 - August 1906: The Czech lands form part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and Prague—still somewhat provincial at the time—seeks to rival the great capitals of Europe. An ambitious redevelopment plan envisages a fundamental transformation of the medieval city into the “Paris of the East”. One district stands in the way: Josefov.
