Lital Spivak – Dreaming of Jerusalem: Czech Applicants to the New Bezalel School

In 1939, young Jewish artists from Czechoslovakia, including Helmut Paskusz, Miriam Ellinger, Jan Zelenka, and Mara London, applied to the New Bezalel School in Jerusalem, hoping to continue their studies while escaping Nazi Europe. Based on previously unexplored application files, this lecture explores Bezalel as a potential route of rescue and follows the lives, artworks, and later fates of these applicants.
