Wedding plate

Among the traditional customs at the wedding ceremony is a sermon by the bridegroom on various themes from the Bible* and the Talmud*, for which he receives a gift (Heb. doron drashah). In the Czech lands, this is a tin plate with an engraved dedicatory inscription and ornamentation relating to the wedding, usually provided for by various religious societies. Ordinary plates, from which wedding plates do not differ in shape in any way, are used for these purposes. They are between 25 and 30 centimetres in diameter.
