ANNIVERSARY EDITION OF JUDAICA BOHEMIAE LX OUT NOW
The anniversary edition of the journal Judaica Bohemiae, Volume LX (2025) (www.jewishmuseum.cz/en/collection-research/science-and-research/science-judaica-bohemiae/judaica-bohemiae-bibliography/)
is now available. For sixty years, Judaica Bohemiae has been dedicated to publishing original scholarly research on the history
and culture of Jews in the Bohemian Lands and elsewhere in the former Habsburg Monarchy, making these studies accessible to
both local and international readers, primarily in English.
The new volume features, among other contributions, a study by Janusz Spyra on the imperial privileges granted to Jews in
the Habsburg Monarchy. In addition, a case study by Ilya Berkovich explores the circumstances surrounding the introduction
of an oath for Jewish soldiers at the end of Joseph II’s reign. Eva Grisová sheds light on the marriage strategies of women
from South-West Moravia who moved to Vienna in the latter half of the 19th century and Gregor Feindt investigates the mobility
of Jewish staff and the employment policies of the Baťa company on the eve of the Second World War. Lenka Uličná presents
unique folklore materials discovered in the genizah of the synagogue in Luže. The volume also includes a commemorative essay
by Arno Pařík on the life and work of the artist Mark Podwal (1945–2024) and a report by Pavla Niklová on the launch
of an annual lecture series in New York dedicated to the history and culture of Czechoslovak Jews, as well as several reviews
of recent scholarly publications on Jewish history in Central Europe.
The online version of the journal is available through the Central and Eastern European Online Library (www.ceeol.com/search/journal-detail?id=698),
which also provides access to the complete run of issues dating back to 1965. The print edition can be ordered through the
